New Wind Turbine Graces Point Lookout Skyline

As the song says, “the answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind.” The “question” in the case of Hempstead Town’s new 100-kilowatt wind turbine is, “how do you fuel-up pollution-free cars without creating any carbon footprint?” More specifically, Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Angie Cullin today unveiled a state-of-the-art wind turbine that will provide the energy necessary to create hydrogen gas, which is being used to power the town’s fuel cell cars. This “closed loop” energy system is completely “green” in producing fuel for vehicles that emit no pollutants.

Also present at the high-energy event were Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin and Long Island energy partners, including the Sustainability Institute at Molloy College, New York Institute of Technology, Wilke Engineering, the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), the Point Lookout and Lido Beach Civic Associations and the Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department.

Point Lookout NY Chamber of Commerce Member Broward Limousine Teams with WGBB, Long Island Cares and the Long Beach NY Wrestling Team to Fight Hunger

Point Lookout Chamber of Commerce News
(Press Release) - December 2, 2011 -

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

POINT LOOKOUT NY (Press Release)
Dec 02, 2011

While there is often a perception of wealth on Long Island, statistics indicate that  205,000 out of the 900,000  households are classified as low-income with more than 165,000 individuals who live under the poverty line. To date, nearly 300,000 residents – an estimated one in ten – rely on food pantries, soup kitchens and other emergency food programs for their nutritional needs.

This week WGBB on Long Island will join forces with Broward Limousines and Long Island Cares in an event to raise awareness to alleviate hunger on Long Island.

On Tuesday night, December 6th, The Long Beach High School Wrestling Team will participate in sorting food at the Long Island Cares Food Bank in Happauge. Listeners are encouraged to make a donation to support  the food bank.

The event will be hosted by WGBB's on air personality, Halftime Howie of Broadcasting on the Beach Show which airs live every Tuesday Night from 8 to 9pm on www.am1240wgbb.com

Many of the people who turn to the Long Island Cares food bank for assistance are working, yet struggle to get by.  After paying for housing, transportation, childcare and health care, there’s not much money left to put towards food.

“There are hundreds of Long Island families who simply cannot make ends meet and are faced with the realities of hunger,” said Robert MacDonald, President of Broward Limousine in lsland Park, NY. “Many people don’t realize the scope of hunger here in Long Island. The awareness generated by WGBB and The Long Beach High School Wrestling Team will make a tremendous difference in our efforts to fight hunger, and we are deeply grateful for their support.” Broward is providing a stretch Escalade limo to transport the wrestling team from Long Beach High School to the food bank in Happauge.

Founded in 1980 by the late singer, songwriter and social activist, Harry Chapin, Long Island Cares provides nutritional food and support services for a network of more than 540 community-based member agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, child care programs, disability organizations, veterans services and more.

“I encourage our listeners to donate whatever they can during this holiday season.” said Half Time Howie of WGBB, “This event will be an eye-opening experience for all of us and we hope to raise awareness for these vital services operating here on Long Island.”

The directory will be distributed to the surrounding communities via direct mail.

“Listing in the printed Directory is an effectual tool for promoting our local businesses, and one that comes with nominal costs to members” added Zampella. “We want local consumers and businesses to shop with Chamber members first, and the directory and website will significantly help facilitate this objective.”

In addition, the Directory will release its 2011 Membership Directory as an animated online flip book as an part of the chamber website. The online flip book format increases viewership from the 2,500 printed books to potentially more than 40,000 users in the
